Go over every single thing in the server room. Every piece of equipment, every cable, every power cord. Take stock of what you have and what you can get rid of. Record everything so that your tech team has accurate and current information available to them when they need it.
Double check that everything is working efficiently. Are there cables with fraying wires or other damage? Replace them. Are some pieces of equipment not working? Take care of it.
Come up with a way to organize the cables with different lengths and label them all appropriately, using colored ties or stickers.
Cables shouldn’t be sprawled across the room one at a time. Group them together and use velcro strips to hold them in place, away from walkways and ensuring you have access to the equipment.
Now that all of your cables are working properly, labeled appropriately, and combined to be out of the way, it’s time to clean in all of the places you probably couldn’t get to before. Compressed air is extremely helpful for cleaning your equipment. Make sure to wipe down your cables and wires, as well.
